  1. Anything from "do it for board and lodging" to very big bucks on a lux yacht

  2. £70 per day seems to be the going rate. This, of course depends upon how long the job is - my mate sails a 67' yacht for the owner in the Med. for 3 months at a time and he charges the owner £300/week. I have known another skipper for many years and the last charter we did he charged £350 for the week. Both are RYA Yachtmaster Ocean skippers and one has his Yachtmaster instructor's qualification.

Don't forget, the minimum qualification is the RYA Coastal/Yachtmatster practical qualification and before you charge anyone for your services, you must add the DoT certificate of competence.

The minimum requirements for the RYA/DoT Coastal skipper examination are (all within 10 years of the examination) :-

30 Days at sea - 2 of them as Skipper

800 Miles logged and 12 hours at night

    VHF operators cert.

    Current first aid cert.

Read all about it at http://www.rya.org.uk or http://www.central-sailing.co.uk

    But what a life!!!

    Best of luck Bigpathome.

  3. As the captain of a large commercial Luxury Yacht, you can earn upwards of 1000 US dollars per foot per year, thats the simple way of figuring it out, obviously all owners pay differently.  Imagine the captain of Pelorus, one of Roman Abramovichs yachts...
