What sort of results can we expect from the melting of the polar ice caps?

The polar ice caps seem to be melting at an alarming rate reaffirming the truths of global warming. I fear that there may be catastrophic floods if more measures like the Kyoto Protocol aren't taken to prevent further erosion. I am sure there are other harmful effects too. Perhaps something to do with all the fresh water that will enter the salty ocean water.

Well the land loss alone would be catastrophic to a lot of countries. But other than a sea level rise it will be hard to predict exactly what will happen. And things that happen will be hard to place on global warming because of the random nature of weather.

Anycase I imagine the world community would demonize the earlier generations. I think we'd see some international trials on older leaders who help contribute to climate change.
