Catch the odd match on Fox Sports World here in Canada and love the action. Just would like to know from fans a bit of insight on the teams even a bit on what sort of fan base each team has.

  1. In American football, the Oakland Raiders are known as bad boys ... basically the equivalent of a biker gang.  The Green Bay Packers consider themselves to be the guardians of TRUE football, played outdoors in December on the frozen tundra ...

In baseball, the New York Yankees are overpaid whiners.  The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have to read the sports pages every day to make sure they're still in the major leagues.  In the state of Illinois, I think the school year is not allowed to start until the Chicago Cubs are eliminated from contention.

  2. Dont know what that guys on about.

10 of the 16 teams in the afl are from Melbourne, as this is where the league began. The big 5 in Melbourne are Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton  Richmond, and Hawthorn. By biggest I mean amount of fans.

The most popular teams outside of Melb are The Adelaide Crows and West Coast Eagles (Perth). They would have the most members and fans of all clubs.

The afl has a salary cap, so its a very even competition......happy viewing and go Tigers!!!

  3. What the h**l was "jackalanhyde" talking about, I will never know! Maybe some kind of soccer they play in America, or something.

The Sydney Swans are famous for their defensive flooding, and counter-attacks, which the Melbourne teams seem to hate. St.Kilda and Western Bulldogs have quite big teams so they like to go the hard tackle, whilst West Coast go for all out driving attacks with Speed. Adelaide are sort of doing that this year as well. In recent years, notably during their back to back titles, Brisbane Lions were awesome on holding possession, wearin their way through the opponents defense, but have recently lost strength and pace through an aging outfit.

As for the fans, most of what the other guy said I agree with, only to add, as a former Sydney Swans season ticket holder (I am now in the UK so can't attend) They always get a packed house, and are quite fanatical, despite being in a traditional Rugby city. Always decked out in Red and White, they scream themselves horse and make in "unpleasant" for visiting teams. The home ground, the SCG, is a bit of a fortress last couple of years, and when Sydney play in the Olympic stadium they often get in excess of 70,000 - big for any sport!
