  1. All depends on what type of fence. Usual tools are drill ,nails, shovel, quikrete, auger for drilling holes, gloves for saftey, string for straight line to follow, hammer and a lot of sweat equity. You can do it !!!

  2. A post hole digger, hammer, nails, saw  and a tape measure..

  3. You will need the following tools to build a wooden fence:

A post-hole digger (clam shell style) or a gas auger

A wheel barrel and shovel to mix concrete

A level to use when setting the posts

Some type of saw to cut the framing lumber

String to make a straight line where the posts will be placed

      A tape measure

And of course, hammer and nails

  4. Level, hammer and nails (or drill gun & screws), chalk line, something to mix concrete in if you're setting the posts in concrete, water to mix concrete, post hole diggers, shovel and/or rock bar.

  5. Add a fence level and a bucket to mix concrete.

  6. The term wooden fence means nothing.

If it is your basic arch top wooden privacy fence you will need the following

    -Post hole diggers

-Shovel for adding DRY concrete mix)

    -Wheel Barrel for concrete mix

-Digging bar with a tamper on one end and wedge iron on other

-Chain saw to cut excess length off of posts

    -A circular saw for rails

-A few stakes and some bright nylon string for layout

    -Upside down spray paint

    -A measuring tape for marking

-A long measuring tape for layout (preferably the large kind with a handle)

    -Plenty of pencils

    -A good 4ft level

    -A framing hammer

-10D and 8D nails (Hot Dipped Galvanized (HDG) ring shank if available

    - 4 or 6 Joist hangers for each post to hold secure the rails to the posts (depends on how many rails you use)

-A SEMI flexible plastic rod to mark the arcs for the tops of the slats

-A coping saw to cut the slats matching the arc

-A drill/driver for installing gate hardware

    -A broom/rake/flat shovel for cleanup

DO NOT mix the concrete, dry pack it and use the digging bar to tamp it in place. (wedge side first to mix in an up and down motion in the hole, then tamp it with the flat side until firm. There should be absolutely no movement in the post.) Intermittantly shovel some of the dirt you took out in with concrete around the post, about equal parts, maybe a liiiitttle bit more concrete than dirt.

I've built fences for about 8 years, no company in Maryland builds better fences. I've been known on occasion to stop on a road so that passengers can look down the legth of one of our wooden fences that has been around for 15+ years and is as straight as an arrow, and then go 100 ft to another house and show them the sway in other companies fences.
