  1. Raising a three year old and teaching pre-school are two very different things. Just because you have a three year old, doesn't mean you'll make a good pre-school teacher.

What I do suggest, though, is to become a sub for your local or surrounding school district(s). Work in pre-school settings (Head Start, ECEAP, or regular pre-school) for about a year to see how you like it or if you're any good at it. After about a year you'll at least have some experience if you decide you like to pursue becoming a pre-school teacher. You can also ask the head teachers to give you Letters of Recommendation and if you can use them as references in the future.

Then, after all that, you still want to teach, then go for it. Get your degree in Early Childhood. Having a 3 year old; not able to afford child care; and needing a job are not good reasons to become a pre-school teacher. You can just as easily become a stripper for those reasons. To become a teacher you have to have the desire to teach and the willingness and patience to put up with all types of children.

I personally enjoy working with that age-group. It's lot's of fun.
