Hi there, i'm going shopping for my wedding dress next week (so excited) and am wondering what sort of underwear to wear. I'll be trying on lots of different styles of dresses so i was thinking a convertible style bra that can go from straps to strapless and boy short style knickers as i don't want the assistant to see my big bum lol!! But i will want to wear a corset under my dress on the actual wedding day as i've not long since had a baby and i still have a bit of a mummy tummy that is showing no sighs of leaving! So should i wear one for the initial choosing of the dress?

I'm sooo confused, please help.

Thanks!!

  1. As little or as much as you feel comfortable with.

Had you married before the baby would you have the same question ?

Good luck.....Enjoy life...Best wises on your big day.

  2. Is that your husband in the background shouting" for fux sake,none"?.........Thats called humour people, hope the bride to be gave me a thumbs up! Good luck on your big day.

  3. I'm wearing a converyble srtapless bra (Victoria secret) and Spanx. I have a slim figure and I'm wearing a form fitting dress (mermaid) I do not want any panty lines and want a smooth look, so I bought the seamless Spanx-cognito full body slimmer.

    Good luck

  4. You must wear the undies you plan to wear on the big day when you go to be fitted...or the fit will be wrong. Wear a corset...s**y and classic.

  5. edible ones

  6. I wore a regular bra and boy shorts and I was really happy with that.

A lot of strapless gowns don't need bras underneath, and at most salons I went to to try on gowns, the sales person had me take off my bra anyway to see how it felt without one. Many of them were better without the bra (I'm not wearing one with my strapless gown on my wedding day).

At Saks, the sales person had a selection of bras for me to wear as well, depending on what style I was trying on. I've heard that upscale places will  have that perk as well.

Edit: I should add after reading other answers  that you don't need to have the underwear you plan on wearing on your wedding with you when you try on gowns. Once you pick your gown, then you can worry about what to wear underneath it. When you have your first fitting for alterations, THEN you should bring the undergarments for the wedding day. I just didn't want you to run out and buy a pricey corset thing just to try on gowns, because it's totally unnecessary :)

  7. The convertible bra is a good idea. Alot of times they let you use a bra to try on the dresses. Boy shorts are fine as long as you are not looking for a slim fitting dress.

  8. If you think you want to wear shapewear (since you just had a baby) I suggest you buy some shapewear underwear, the kind that comes up higher and hides your tummy. You also might consider buying a strapless bustier (i think I spelled that wrong). It will hold in your middle and push your b*****s up a little.

You will want to buy your shapewear before trying on a dress because it could fit differently and you want to get as close to the actual dress fitting as possible. I highly recommend going to a department store today or early tomorrow and just buying some simple shapewear/tummy tucking panties.

If you are not planning on wearing any shapewear go with a strapless or convertible bra (although I still think a bustier would be best since its normally what you would wear with a wedding dress)

Also, they have shapewear undergarmets that are actually like shorts. You put it on and it looks like tight shorts and it holds in your thighs, covers your bum, and tucks your tummy in. If the shapewear is not too tight you can wear 2: a shorts-type one that covers your bum and thighs, and then a tummy one over it. I'm wearing some tummy tucking underwear and a corset-type bustier, and I purchased both of those before I went dress shopping. They took about 2 inches off of me too, so I had a wider selection of dresses that fit me.

  9. When I went I wore my normal underwear and they ended up putting me in "their" bra anyways. I think that you're in good form wearing a convertible and boyshorts, nothing wrong with that. Once you decide on a dress they will help you figure out the ideal undergarments ( =

    Good luck and have fun!

  10. I would try to find the corset you are planning to wear under the dress so you can see what it will really look like, Also try Spanx they do wonders, you can wear them when you go shopping.

  11. Most places will give you the bra to wear with the dress. I wore boy shorts for my undies and it was perfect.

  12. You should probably try and wear whatever you think you will be wearing with the dress. You don't want to buy the dress and then have trouble finding a corset that will work with the dress, and you want to be comfortable in your dress. I don't think it would be a bad idea to bring both the bra and corset, that way if you find a dress you love that doesn't work with the corset you can try it on with the bra to see if your "mummy tummy" shows too much for your comfort. YOu will probably be dropping a significant amount of money on this dress, so do what you need to to feel comfortable.
