My girlfriend and i have both passed our RYA level 1 parts 1 & 2 (coastal). We want a board that we can share (with different sail sizes) and that we can both progress on without having to replace the board too quickly. Should we buy a board with or without a dagger board? I weigh just under 11st and my girlfriend just under 9st. We have had totally conflicting advice so if anyone can answer the question from personal experience we would really appreciate it. Thanks very much.

  1. Without, basically.

As you are not a complete beginner, you'll want to progress to sailing in stronger winds (ie. planing, using a harness). You'll need a smaller board for this and a daggerboard is of no use...

Unless you ONLY want to go out on light-wind days with large sails (seems unlikely!?)

  2. get a board with the dagger but not an outright long board

your both still at the learning piont if not beginners

once the daggers gone its all diffrent get a board you can retract the dagger and sail like a short board e.g. rail it up when you want to sail up wind ...... its all a learning curve dont run before ya can walk have fun ...
