My friend's one-year old loves penguins and ducks, and likes to say "quack" to both. Which brought up the discussion as to what sound a penguin actually makes.

Did you hear it? Here it is again:

    Still nothing?

  3. a throaty sound...

  4. As already noted, it depends upon the particular type of penguin. The "jackass penguin" gets its name from the fact that it sounds like a jackass braying.

The "emperor penguin" has a different sound, which others tried to describe and you can hear here

  5. They actually make a variety of different sounds depending on the breed.  I would describe one kind of noise as a high pitched croaking sound; a little bit like a hoarse or nasal honk.

Here's a link that has several sounds with it: http://www.gdargaud.net/Antarctica/Pengu...

  6. They make a weird sort of buzzing honk sound.  I don't think it's possible to imitate it.
