What source do most big companies go through for a background check?

i failed a background check for a company i was looking forward to working for.I currently work for a big oil company and had to do a background check for them. i didnt have a problem gettin this job so im curious to know why i didnt get this new job so i need to see my records.

You have the legal right to a copy of your background check and the employer has to tell you where they got the information.  They can either give you the report or you can request it from the company they used.  There's many different background check companies, so it's impossible to say who they used without asking them.  

    If they refuse to give you the information you seek, contact an attorney or the labor board in your state.  There's a website which will help you with your rights as well - www.privacyrights.org.  HOpe that helps and good luck!
