HI! I POSTED THIS IN THE SECTION ABOUT EUROPE, BUT I WAS THINKING THAT I MAY GET BETTER RESULTS IF I REPOST IT IN THE SECTION ABOUT ITALY.

THIS WAS MY 1ST POST AND I PUT IT IN THE WRONG SECTION; SO IF YOU SEE IT AGAIN, SORRY ABOUT THAT.

Hi everyone! I'm trying to go on a study abroad trip to Italy in July and I want to capture some great memories. What souvenirs do you recommend I try to get (not just things made especially for tourists) and places/things/people to take pictures of. I know it depends on me, but I'm just looking for ideas and suggestions because I'm just that excited!

If you have any other tips for being in Italy, just let me know- I'm open to hear what you have to say! :-)

We are supposed to be going to:

Perugia

Siena & Cortona, or Florence

Assisi

Naples

Pompeii

Capri

Venice

AND THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO DID ANSWER IN THE OTHER SECTION! :-)

  1. have a great time...that is the best souvenir

  2. In Venice you will find young artists doing oils and pastels of the buildings, the canals, etc.   These completed works are for sale at very little money and make great gifts for yourself.  I've seen these artists other places in Italy too, but they frequent the tourist areas.

  3. Dang girl, you guys are going everywhere, huh? Good for you.

I'm not going to suggest what you should take pictures of because that'll really depend on you and your interests. Italy is real keen on very old churches and buildings, scenery, etc...but it also has its slums.

Please be aware that some areas of Naples are in the middle of a trash epidemic. There are literally big piles of the stuff practically everywhere. It is NOT pretty. It's actually very embarassing.

I'm not sure what else to say. I've been to a few other of those places, but I'll leave the deciding up to you. Have fun!

PS: Naples is notorious for crime. Please be careful and try not to bring too much attention to yourself. Tell your friends to do the same.

  5. You could enjoy everymoment to the fullest?

Try eating something different, try going out to a bar at night, try catching the train on a weekend and going somewherefar for the day, try meeting new people.. hopefully Italians, try learning italian or at least some words....

and by the way there are going to be good times and bad times... but at the end youll mostly remeber the good times.....

this is the best souvenir you can take with you!

    ENJOY!

  6. italy is known for the gold.its much more reosonably priced there.

  7. Leather goods are wonderful - there are plenty of fine leather shops around the country, but there is a market in Florence (San Lorenzo Market) - things like wallets, jackets, journals etc are nice.  I lived there and actually regretted never picking up a soccer jersey or something stupid like the funny aprons(they are everywhere).  Wine accessories are nice too (I picked up a hand painted wine bottle stopper.  Gold is another thing that is big in Florence (all of the shops are on the Ponte Vecchio).
