What space do I need to allow for heat exchange behind a built-in fridge feezer?

I'm replacing a built-in Fridge Freezer. New units are quite different in terms of depth and height - do I need to allow space between unit and back of the wall (I'm assuming there is no 'back' to the carcass, instead being open to the wall)?

  1. I like to leave at least 2 inches MINIMUM clearance between the 'coil' and the wall. If the coils are on the bottom of the unit I leave a MINIMUM of 2 1/2 to 3 inches. Make sure you leave some clearance at the top too if you have a cupboard above the unit.

  2. Ask the installer and yes you need space somewhere.
