Question:

What space heater should I buy for my work cubicle?

My office can get pretty cold sometimes and I am a tshirt and shorts/sandals guy (yes we have super casual work attire). I need a space heater for my cubicle which needs to be really quiet since I do not want my cubicle neighbors to be bothered. It doesn't have to be too powerful, all I need is something that will warm my feet and legs. I will keep it under my desk.

I researched different kinds of heaters. The fan powered heaters seem noisy, the panel heaters apparently don't provide any heat from more than a few inches distance. So I am confused.. help?

  1. If it's a real cubicle (the desk is covered by partitions on three sides), I would just upgrade to a desktop computer and place that under the desk.  There should be enough heat generated/trapped to cut the cold.

Most desktops will have a 250-300 watt power supply, versus the 100watts or less for laptops.

Small space heaters will be of the range of 1000 watts, but they just heat.  And they are not allowed by policy, since they can blow circuits, create fire hazards, etc.

The desktop PC will be a bit noisy too, but at least it will be tolerated.

    Good luck!

  2. Newer improved ceramic cube heaters are great, quiet and make lots of cheap heat!

  3. A sealed oil space heater is your best bet. It uses ambient heat and is very quiet and safe. I believe the brand I know of is called  Delonghi.
