What special weapons did roger federer had that he dominated the game for such a long period of time?

  1. He had a complete all around game. He possessed what the "power" players had and even more with no visible weakness at that time.

    I believe in 2000, a lot of the media was talking about how the game of tennis was going to be dominated by "power" tennis. So a lot of players took the "power" route, single big ground strokes (either backhand or forehand), backed up with the big serve.

    When Federer rolled around with his very polished, all around game, he gave the power players a lot of trouble. Federer had power and consistency on both sides of his ground strokes, good serve, good footwork, good net play, etc....

    Federer had the best game to counter power. He countered "power" with "power" and even more with his all around game.

    I don't think Federer can dominate like he once has, to stay at number 1 for four years straight, but people don't start the conversation of him maybe being the greatest ever for nothing.

    I'm happy to watch how he will continue to progress and grow as a player! And as they say, I hope he can bring the magic :)
