What species influence the oxygen levels of lakes?

I think the answer is phytoplankton but can anyone reconfirm this?

    Some species produce it, but other consume.


  2. Anything that lives in the lake and respirates uses oxygen.  Anything that lives in the lake and photosynthesizes will contribute oxygen.

  5. Phytoplankton can indirectly affect oxygen levels. Elevated numbers of phytoplankton can lead to elevated levels of algae, which are known to consume a lot of the lake's dissolved oxygen.  

  6. The answer would be everything that lives in the lake, LOL.

    Algae, plants, phytoplankton, cyanobacteria, and even some protists will add oxygen from photosynthesis.

    Aerobic decay bacteria, fungi, animals, and protists will use oxygen, and tend to decrease oxygen levels.
