What species is the animal that we found on the beach?

Ok. We found a weird animal while digging in the sand on Cape Cod. It was almost clear with slightly white tinted skin. It had a few hundred little red legs and it was hiding in the sand. Please help me figure out what this animal was!

It might be a sand worm, Nereis. That ID is a definite maybe.

If you want help identifying it describe it. Did it look like a worm, shrimp, slug,etc.? I know it had lots of red legs on a translucent body, but not how big it was or anything else. EDIT It may be one of the hundreds of kinds of worms that live in the sea.
