I am looking into raising freshwater shrimp, on a small scale. What species can I eat?

What species is the best for a first timer to raise? I am looking for a combination of ease of care, economy of owning, and ultimate size (meat value)

Thanks

  1. cool, send me the information when you find out cause i didn't know you could eat freshwater shrimp. is that like prawns or tiger shrimp?

  2. The freshwater prawns that is most commonly cultivated is the "rosenbergii" or Malasian Prawn. I raised them at my farm last year and was very pleased with the results. They are totally intolerant of any cold weather and will die when the temp gets below 60 degrees.  I found them to be very easy to grow.

I't given you a few links to the southern regional aquatic center that provides research. Also feel free to drop me a line if I can help.
