I assume we're dealing with a case of hypospellcheckia rather than a bleeding bird. ;-)

Saline will do. You don't necessarily want to give a huge bolus, of course, but you don't want to give a lot of free water, and glucose levels need to be kept down. There's nothing written in stone, and labs along with the ongoing clinical situation may suggest a change, but the old standard is the standard for a reason.
