Question:

What specific muscles should I be working on to lift my partner in ballet?

I am a female ballerina doing a pa de deux with another female ballerina. I am dancing the male part and was placed there due partly to my strength in upper body and quads (I did gymnastics for years). The choreographed dance is going to have many lifts in it, and I am wondering which specific muscles I should be working on to lift my partner. She is quite light, and shorter than me... I am fairly familiar with ballet, but not the male sections of it =}. Should I simply be doing more and more push-ups everyday to build up my arms (along with my daily ballet classes), or should I be working on more specific muscles?

Thank you!
