  1. I would go for the 3 way Tower speakers up front....

And the Three Way Boston Acoustics in the rest of the system...bookshelf or IN WALL systems....

    At 130 W that's what you want...

  2. Dont worry about it.  That receiver will work with most commercial speakers just fine.

Back in the 70's era, matching a 'bright' speaker with a 'warm' amp was a topic of much debate among audiophiles.

A home theater system is very different from a two-channel music system.

Take a favorite CD or two down to the stores and audition speakers.  Try to listen only to sets you can afford.  Make notes about what sounded OK and what sounded bad.  Then leave.

Come back a few days later with different music and re-listen. You may be suprised at how your opinion changed.  But a few speakers will sound decent on both visits so those should go on your short list.

(I know - I said music and HT are different, but music is a harder challenge for speakers to produce so it's a better test than a favorite DVD.)

I respect TV Tech-Man's opinion, but I have a different one:

I suggest you look at 5 or 7 monitor-style speakers, and a dedicated, self-powered subwoofer for your system.

    My reasons:

    - Small speakers are usually cheaper, yet contain the identical tweeter and midrange as the towers.

    - Small speakers are easier to place/dont dominate the room.  (Spousal acceptance is an issue)

    - The placement of the L/R speakers are usually horrible for bass response. But a sub-woofer gives you the ability to find the right spot in the room.

    - A self-powered sub frees the receiver from trying to drive woofers which suck a LOT of power. I remember when "The Matrix" came out - people with tower speakers had their systems over-heat in the lobby shootout scene because many minutes of huge amounts of bass was too much for some receivers.
