  1. you are just a little heavier than me and I started out on a FZ6. I had a little riding under my belt with a Honda Shadow road bike though. After a year I was ready to get a bigger bike, so I bought a Yamaha R1.  The R1 is ridiculously fast and way too much bike for just street riding. I would recommend a Yamaha R6 or equivalent 600.

    Good Luck!!

  2. You should get that Yamaha 250 Sport Bike. I used them in the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. It sounds small, but that was a COOL bike! I think it was around $2000 buck too. It looks great and has fantastic handling. My normal bike is an RC51 Honda so I know a good bike when I ride one. Good luck, be safe, and take the MSF course.

  3. I think Nate sums it up the best one this one.  If you respect the bike not everyone dumps it.  Wear you gear and you'll most likely be fine.

  4. definetley not the yamaha r1 thats more of a racing type of bike that can easily take over if your not use to a 1000cc sport bike.I prefer the gsx-r600 and work up to a 750 then maybe a 1000cc.

  5. hey, I'm 21 and I ride a GSX-R 1000 so there's nothing you can't do, but I've got 2 solid years on the road as well and I've been through a crash.

My first bike was a 1990 VFR-750 (don't let the size fool you, it had much less power than a newer 600cc sportbike) and your very correct, it's not a question of if you'll go down, it's a question of when, but it doesn't matter what engine size you have, either way you can really get hurt.

Buy whatever you want, it's your money, if you really think you have the respect to start out on a GSX-R 750 go for it, but the minute you lose respect your dead!!!

Not to mention if you rode a 600cc I'd be amazed if you could even use all it's got at your skill level.

I would say that an R1 is way too much for you, even after two years when I got my GSX-R I regretted not getting a 600 because it was way too powerful, to be honest I think the 750 is too much as well.

Here's the thing, if your a new rider (which you are) I can almost guarantee you'll at least drop the thing within a few months, so do yourself a favor and don't go out there and buy something new, the best bike for you is a 98-02 CBR600RR, don't let the year fool you, these things have balls and they look really good, not quite as flashy, but save the flashy stuff for when you know what you are doing, a comparable GSX-R or R6 will work just as well if you find a good deal or like either of those better.

Don't listen to all those people who recommend a ninja 250 or 500, those things are weak as h**l, you'll be bored in a week and how are you supposed to learn how to ride a powerful bike on a goped? Most of those people drive those ******* scooters and don't know what the **** their talking about. Oh and I definitely do agree with them on the MSF class, you get your license at the end anyhow so it's a great thing to do.

just go ride a 600, I bet you can't even pin the throttle in first gear, they are plenty fast for you, their cheaper, and they lean a little better as well.

  6. thos bikes have CRAZY power people really do underestimate what there capable of. i really dont think ur gunna be goin 180mph any time soon. i would suggest the 2008 ninja 250r. it looks just like a super sport bike but its learner friendly. if you have some experience riding dirt bikes or any bike with a clutch and you take the MSF course (highly recommended) you will be able to handle a 600cc safely (gsxr 600 or r6)

edit: ok then go with the 600. and you could actually get a 750 if you want to. just  take it easy

  7. take a look at the SV 650 ( a V-twin) or the ninja 650.           (a parallel twin)...both have plenty of pep and are a bit bigger than the 250s  but will not get you into trouble as easily as the 600RR bikes will
