This is great freeware that you can download.  Just tell it where you are and it will tell you what you see.

I believe that you are talking about Jupiter but with this star chart program, you will be able to know for sure.

  2. krystal, your going to have to be A LOT more specific. When I point I point my telescope at the moon, many stars are visible.

Please provide the following information by adding details-

    *What time your viewing.

*What position it is next to the moon.

    *How bright is it?

*For how long have you been seeing it?

*Around what time have you been seeing it?

It could be a planet rather than a star. It could be Jupiter.

  3. i just noticed this a week or so ago, i could only see one other star and i had to really stare to see it... so i knew it wasn't a star... to my knowledge the only things that could have 'fit' were planets... after some searching i found out it was indeed jupiter....

  4. I think the real bright one you are seeing is

Jupiter. But like the other person was saying

you need to add what time and from where are

you looking at the moon and how, bare eyes, or

    a scope ?

  5. like the stars, the moon is constantly moving in the sky.  Because of this fact you need to let us know what time you saw it.  It may have been jupiter but that would have to be late at night.  Before the moon gets to jupiter it goes through the constellations Aquarius and Capricornus.  Where I come from those constellations arnt even visible because they're so dim.  So unless you live outside the city with very little light it would have to be jupiter which indeed is not a star.

  6. It could possibly seem like there's a star next to the moon but, it might be a star that's light-years away. It also could be a planet that you just happen to be LUCKY enough to spot every night. Heck, it could be a UFO station that's just close enough to be seen as stars and planets are but, none of those are actually right next to the moon.
