  1. Georgian forces attacked Russian civilians. Now, it appears that Russia is flexing her muscles a little bit, but then again Georgia shouldn't have been so foolish than to attack the country the size of Russia.

Diplomacy is the best answer here.

  2. South Ossetia declared independence from Georgia. North Ossetia is part of Russia. Georgia sent troops to South Ossetia and Russia sent their own troops, whether to protect them from Georgia or try to gain control of it themselves is up for debate.

  3. Since 2002 the US has been modernizing Georgia’s military. Georgia is needed by the US as a strategic position in Europe, Middle East and Asia (Imperialism).

Georgia using these new “toys” decided to obliterate a piece of their territory because the people there weren’t cooperating with the government. Russia had peacekeepers there to protect the people, most of whom were Russians.

Russia launched a counter attack to stop the Georgian assault and went beyond the region in question to stop possible long distance attacks into the region.

The western media is being led to make Russia the enemy because the western nations will gain from it. Namely the ability to do as they please without someone (Russia) stopping them.
