What state has the most golf courses?

Michigan. There are more than 850 public courses, not to mention the several hundred private courses.

It should be from my home state of Michigan with around some 1000 courses public and private included. The courses aren't open all year around unlike other states such as florida and california because of their location near the equator. There are several golf courses that rank nationally but can cost in excess of $100 for 18 holes of golf.
