  1. A state of confusion, France.

  2. To answer the question you posted:  Paris is in Texas.  In France, there are no "states" -- France has provinces, and I couldn't tell you which province Paris is in.  All I know is that Paris is the capitol of France and my wife insists that we go there if we ever visit Europe...

  3. Ile de France

  4. France is the country, and it's the state.

The city of Paris is in the departement of Paris (75).

The region is called 'Ile de France'.

  5. Paris is a "commune" (what Americans would call a "municipality" ) consisting of 20 arrondissements (districts) .

It is also considered a "département" (an organizational entity which has no exact equivalent in American government.)

In addition to being the capital of France, is also the capital of the Île-de-France région (regions being something like states in the USA but without all the same powers as American states to govern themselves) which consists of Paris itself and the seven surrounding départements.

  6. France is the country, Paris is the capitol city.

I don't think they have states in Europe that is a United States thang.
