  2. no state. It is in the District of Columbia of Washington D.C.

  3. Maryland.

  4. The capital is not in a state, it is in the District of Columbia...

  5. Its in the District of Columbia.  Originally the District was square, with about one third of it on the south side of the Potomac in Virginia, but this was later ceded back to Virginia by the Federal government.  The district today is entirely on what used to be part of Maryland.

  6. It is the the District of Columbia which is an annexation from Martland

  8. IT'S WASHINGTON, D.C. :-

Washington, D.C., (pronounced /ˈwɒʃɪŋtən ˌdiːˈsiː/) (commonly referred to as Washington; the District; or simply D.C.) is the capital of the United States founded on July 16, 1790. Washington (the city) covers the same area as (i.e. is coterminous with) the District of Columbia and are considered to be the same entity. The centers of all three branches of the Federal government of the United States are located in the District. Also situated in the city are the headquarters of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Development Bank, and other national and international institutions, including trade unions and professional associations.

The District of Columbia is located on the banks of the Potomac River and bordered by the states of Virginia to the southwest and Maryland to the northwest, northeast, and southeast. Article One of the United States Constitution provides for a federal district, distinct from the states, to serve as the permanent national capital. The United States Congress has supreme authority over Washington, D.C., which results in residents of the city having less self-governance than residents of the states. The District has a non-voting at-large Congressional delegate, but no senators.

If Washington, D.C. were a state, it would rank last in area (behind Rhode Island), second to last in population (ahead of Wyoming), first in population density, 35th in gross state product, and first in percentage of African Americans, which would make Washington, D.C. a minority-majority state.

  12. it is in the district of columbia which is in the state of maryland

  13. Well, it's not exactly a state. Washington, D.C. is in a territory called District of Columbia (that's why it's "D.C.") which is located between Maryland and Virginia. So, it is DEFINITELY not a state.
