What state or country are you in and how long does it take to become a special education teacher there?

In California, it takes at least 5 years.  You need to earn at least a four-year bachelor's degree and a one-year credential.  It often takes longer, either because the University does not accept transfer classes or because they do not offer prerequisite and other required classes each term.

Maine, US.  I think it takes a 4 year bachelor in education or communication disorders or something.  Regardless of degree title, I know its a 4 year bachelor.
