teacher pay is relative to geographical area. large cities with higher cost of living pay more. smaller cities/towns with lower cost of living pay less.

so even though a teacher in las vegas may start out at $35000 and a teacher in san francisco may start at $45000 the sf teacher isn't really making that much more since the extra money goes to higher cost of living expenses like rent/mortgage, transportation (fuel always costs more in the big city), food, etc.

some districts allow you to top out higher than others but other than that almost all teacher pay is the same relative to local cost of living expenses.
