  1. Believe the first Public Course was VanCourtland in New York.  The first 18 holes course was Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton Illinois but I beleive it has always been a private club.


  2. The first public golf course in the US was in New York State.  It was Van Cortlandt Golf Course, Bronx, New York in 1895.  It is still in operation today and is a very nice course.

  3. I think you are asking what was the first Public Course to hold the US Open?

    First "tax-payer" owned course was Beth Page Black in 2002 in New York.  Torrey Pines will be the first "city owned" course to hold the US Open this year.  

    Both are daily fee courses.
