The website says "No NC Winner" and "this chart does not reflect the winners from other states."

So do other states participate? I was under the impression that it was just NC.

  1. Powerball is played in the following states:

Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Virgin Islands, West Virginia, Wisconsin

  2. Powerball is actually a lottery that's the Multi-State Lottery Association (see http://www.musl.com/musl_members.html ).

Powerball is pretty much operated (as in doing the actual drawing) by the Iowa Lottery in Des Moines, Iowa.  As a result, Iowa Powerball players have less time (about 61 minutes less) to buy their lotto ticket(s). The Powerball numbers are drawn at 9:59 PM Central Time & usually broadcasted at the first commercial break of your local news (generally 5 minutes after the drawing).

It can take a while for the Powerball system to scan the network of sold tickets to see if there's any matches.  North Carolina seem to only focus on their state.  I know that the Iowa Lottery will report where the winning Powerball ticket was purchased within a day or two.

I hope that clears things up for you!
