Gas is presently $4.00 in my area. I've had to cut back on what I eat for supper. But I have not started driving 55 mph yet.

  1. Well, we are retired and I am very watchful of our spending.  I make all our food from scratch...and we do eat well.  We live in a small town in Texas (1200 people).  We have no large stores near us, it's okay with me, cause I have never been a female "shopper".  ha ha......Our market has a beautiful selection of food...slightly higher than if I drove 30 miles to a larger city.....but they put all kinds of meat on 1/2 price is it is going out of sell date that day.  I buy it (unless there is a young mother or a person older than me looking at it)....then I freeze it.  It is perfectly good.  What a savings!!  I also shop and prepare all my Mother's food.  She is 86.  She is so healthy and happy, Thank God.  She gets anything she wants.  Luckily for me, she is frugal.  We aren't extravagant in the least.  That helps.  We have started driving 60 mph....and pulling over when cars want to pass.  (Most blink their lights at us.  People are very courteous in Texas.)  I have the time to make large meals and freeze to share and put in freezer.  People that are working do not have that time.  I am very lucky I am retired.  I am not worried yet.  I hope you do well.

  2. trips

  3. I try to consolidate trips whenever possible.  I've had to stop paying credit card bills, too, but that's only in part because of the gas prices.  The rest of the reason is because of being a one-income household.

  4. hello - i drive slower,

use the ac less (if at all, but we have had 7 days of 90 degree weather so its been on),

i always commuted by subway, so cant cut costs there, but could you carpool?

no extra coffees from dunkin donuts (brew at home),

    no afternoon snack,

I bring my lunch to work whenever i have the time and leftovers to do that

    don't re subscribe to magazines

    run dishwasher at night

overall i just think every time i pull out money if i really need whatever it is.  i use cash and no credit cards (its harder to spend cash).

    good luck
