What steps do I need to go through to become a nanny?

I am interested in becoming a nanny, and am wondering what steps I need to go through.

I know that I should get certified in CPR, of course, but what else?

I will be 19 next month. I have been babysitting since I was 12 and "Mothers-helping" since I was 9.

I have a few families that are very loyal to me and would be willing to give great references.

  1. you need to have lots of patices for kids and you have to take a babysitters course.....and you have to know what age group you would be good with .....and being a nanny is alot of work that you need to make sure you are ready for i was not ready for the nanny bit till i was 20-21 so make sure you are ready

  2. I would join an organization for nannies and get a mentor. I can help you with that. I am the Treasurer for the Association of Professional Nannies. We have a mentor program that puts new nannies with experienced ones. Id also suggest a yahoo nanny group. There are a bunch of them out there.  I have been a nanny for 17 years and have been with my current family for almost 15. Good luck.

  3. I would think some Child Psychology and Child Behavior classes would help, along with a Child's Nutrition class, and register with a Nanny Agency/Registry.  They can definitely tell you what you should have behind your belt.

I have listed some links below that will hopefully assist you in getting started.

Best wishes on your endeavor, and God bless!
