What steps do they take to assure the age of the athletes?

I know this is such a debated topic, but I'm just curious the steps they actually take to assure the age of the athletes in the olympics. What I'm mainly curious about is the age of the gymnasts-- as a lot of the chinese gymnasts do not look like they could pass for 16.

Thanks for any answers!

  1. They take a dna test from the athlete and the parents of the athlete in question. Then they take the age of both parents as well as thier height at several stages in thier lives growing up.

They add the mothers age now to  the fathers height at the age of 16  then divide by two thus giving the exact age of the athlete in question.

Its a kinda messed up formula but its about as intelligent as all the boneheads worried about the age of the Chinese gymnasts. They won you didnt suck it up and deal with it.

Enjoy the rest of the olympics.

  2. I believe the athletes have to provide a passport as proof.  Of course, it is the government that issues the passport, so it would be easy enough for the Chinese government to enter under age competitors if they wanted to.

  3. The athlete who needs a good passport to get through airport security are at a disadvantage to those that need to walk across the street.

Apparently the ages of some of the girls have changed over time. Maybe they age faster in China.

  4. Passports h/e the communist gov. can manipulate the passprts age so they can win
