Question:

What steps would i have to take to get a career in boat construction (building and maintaining boats etc)?

I presume i would need a btec electrical engineering qualification first as learndirect tells me..anythin other specific courses?

I dont really have any good gcse grades so i obviously have to start from scratch...

I need to know what i need to do this as a career...

Be specific please. Need to hear from people that know.

Help would be very much appreciated...thanks.

  1. Depends where you live - the firm "Sealine" are always on the lookout for good workers.

    You don't say what sort of boats, but whatever, you would do best to contact several Companies direct and ask them what they would expect and also ask if it would be possible to spend some time with them gaining work experience during your summer holiday.

    That way you get to know what will be expected and get your feet under the table!


  2. I am a boatbuilder.

    I found a boatbuilder with high standards and apprenticed under him.

    We rarely hire people out of boatbuilding schools (unless schooled in Europe... sorry but the Europeans have superior training) because there is too much stuff taught that has little relevance in the real world of boatbuilding.

    Find someone who does what you want to do and go work for them... see what they require.
