  1. Think instead of emote...

  2. Simply be aware of your emotions. Knowing whether you are acting on them or your logic is important.

  3. I would remind myself that I might die off anytime, and then

    bones and ashes, nothing.

  4. In his book "Pathways to Bliss," Joseph Campbell explains that mythical symbolism (religion) works on the human brain in a similar way that a ground wire works on a piece of electronic equipment.

Think of a religious icon that really connects you to God (or whatever universal mind is the basis of your core belief system) and let your emotions run through that symbol and into the "transcendent." Your rational mind should be restored almost immediately.

  5. There is enough false humility in this nation already. Why do it on purpose?

When you have done something to be proud of stand up and pat yourself on the back.

Pride does not have to be the act of shouting your achievements in everyone's faces to lord it over them. But it must be in their faces if one is to market what one has done. Do you think the 2 richest men in the world got that way by being "humble"???

Yet today they are the 2 biggest philanthropists the world may ever see.

  6. You said humble your emotions. True humility is the center of confidence. Confidence is not arrogance. Rather than grow quickly in humility, it sounds that you may be hurting emotionally and want to make amends. All that is required for these emotions to arise is to realize a big mistake. Emotional humility follows. Pride causes one to take for granted and not appreciates which causes a big fall. After a fall, let the heart lead with good sense. This is my interpretation and not intended to be offensive.

  7. That's kind of a bootstrap operation, isn't it (trying to lift yourself up by your own bootstraps)?  I think the only thing you can do is to put yourself in a situation where life is going to humble you--a situation you're not equal to, a challenge in which you're going to feel something of a fool.  And thus have to learn, and stretch yourself, become a little more than you are right now in order to get through it successfully.  A situation where you can see and feel your limitations.
