Question:

What stitch should I use?!? embroidery!?

I am making a project with my husband's and my names and the date of oiur marriage, what stitch should I use? I typed it up on the computer and am gonna copy it onto the material, it is the book antiqua font size 76 for the first letter of each word and 48 for the rest...help me out here guys...also how do i "turn" the letter like if it was a block letter and it showed the edges turned out like on a capital H in a pretty font? thanks

  1. On your computer go to the format font -right click on the highlighted text and see your options. You are limited to what fonts are in your word processor so see what you have.

    As for the stitch to use, it depends on the use of the item. If its going to be handled then a cross stitch would be more durable otherwise a satin stitch is the most common.


  2. use backstitch to outline the letters and satin stitch to fill in.

  3. I would probably use a back stitch or an outline stitch.  

  4. Not entirely sure what you mean by turn.  If you want to create a shadow effect, use a colour thread a couple of shades darker than the one you are using on the main part of the letter.

    As for the stitches to use- it depends on what you are stitching it on.

    If you are going to use freestyle stitching, then I agree with Jo-Ann - I'd personally use back stitch or stem stitch to outline the letters, then fill in with satin stitch.

    You could also use cross stitch if you wanted to use the waste canvas method (but then you'd have to chart your letters).
