  1. At  a Geelong-Collingwood game in 2001, I asked Billy Brownless if it was OK to call Mark Thompson as Bomber since he was then at Geelong. Billy said yes. Doug Wade also told me it was OK.

Here is an excellent link for Rexy's nicknames.

  2. There all cowards compared to Rugby League Players !

  3. I'm with deedubya on this one!

Just get straight to the point, no pussyfooting around!!

  4. Most nicknames are a play on a surname, but others come from footy trips.

    Grey Ghost was Jim Jess

Dipper was Dipperdimenico ??? spelling thats why it was dipper.

    Flea was Dale Weightman

Cindy better known as Crawf Shane Crawford

and who could forget Mad Dog Muir

I heard a nickname Gastric Juices for an ex player at Essendon but not sure if it was his real nicname

That's definately the strangest one i've heard

The list goes on and on I'm sure you'll get a heap of nicknames

  5. Peter Hudson-hudo

    Peter Keenan-crackers

    Jason Akermanus-ackers.

    Justin Madden-harry

    Davis Schwartz -swarter

    Lou .Richards-the chimp

    Kevin Bartlett-K.B

    Umpires-green maggots.

    Ron Andrews -rotten ronnie

    Alex Jesalenko-Jezza

And a saint called the G train.

    Mark Thompson-Bomber

Must be dozens of these nick names, and other anglo saxon play-with- words.

  6. Gary Ablett Sr ... God

    Gary Ablett Jr ... Jesus

Nathan Ablett ... Trinity and Moses both seem to be catching on

Should say the Ablett's HATE these names, but they persist.

But ... having a coach at Catland called 'Bomber' ... that's "strange" (but OK by me!!).  How long till he gets called Cat Thompson?

  7. Nah ..not really strange,.. been that way for as long as I can remember.    Just an effective  way of abbreviating the  the blokes surname.     It would be more than strange if a Collingwood player approached Malthouse,  and said .."Oh Micheal ..just saw the doctor and I cant play this week, I have a sore leg.   Much rather the norm ..Hey Malty legs stuffed mate, I'm out for 2.   Its bad enough that the  rules have been "feminised" please don't start on how players and coach's talk to each other.   Geez..you didn't get this idea from Caroline Wilson, did you ?

  8. West Cast has big Cox

  9. Brett Burton is called The Birdman, Peter Everitt - Spida, Jeff Farmer - The Wizard. These might be commentators nicknames though rather than what other players call them. My favourite of all time was John Platten who was called The Rat, that one's a classic he looked like one and he kinda played like one too.

  10. Sorry Liat J but u got one wrong.

    Akermanis-D***head
