fourth grader has been assessed informally. he often places his head close to desk while reading.Make frequent audible whisper during silent reading.He distracted his surrounding

  1. if you mean while he is reading silently he whispers what he is reading....then he needs to do that to comprehend what he is reading.  So you could move him to his own spot away from the group so he will not distract anyone while he reads.  All people/children learn in different ways some need to see the material, some may need to hear it and some learn by doing.  My point with that is if he is an auditory learner he needs to hear what he is reading to understand it and that is why he whispers the words he is reading.


  2. Use a whisper phone, have him face away from other students, or talk to other students about tolerance.  If he's whisper reading it means he's still at that stage developmentally.  He'll grow out of it when he can comprehend without hearing himself at the same time.  Be glad he can read.

  3. He could have tourettes which is causing the sounds. It is tics that he can NOT stop.
