I took the SAT once without studying and got a 2040 (CR: 640, MATH:680, WRITING: 720.

I took the ACT once, also without studying, and got a 29.

What books will best prepare me for improving my scores?

Also, how much improvement in my scores can I realistically expect to get if I study thoroughly?

  1. I recommend you get Princeton Review books. They have it for SAT and PSAT, and many other important tests.

Edit: Just so you know, they're in the $15-20 price range.

  2. Princeton Review or Kaplan helped me.  I improved my SAT by 200 points because of a Kaplan book.

  3. a lot. Check Barnes and Noble. They have some pretty good study books.
