  1. muay thai is the way to go.. good luck man

  2. If I were to answer like most of these peopleon here, except for the top contributers and a few others, I would recomend the style I take or what I have seen in the UFC, which is what most people who have never trained automaticly think of. In fact you already have one, the person who answered Muay thai. It is an excellent fighting style, but has absolutly no training dealing with more then one person, or an attacker with a weapon, both situations that could very well happen. Another UFC Junkie.

The fact is that almost any martial art will teach you good self defense if taught right .

However I am not going to tell you what styyle you should take. My advice is:

    1) Make a list of all of the schools and classes availible in your area.(that's the problem with people recomending styles, not everything is taught everywhere)

    2) Go here www.bulshido.com. They have an excellent list on what to avoid and what to look for in a good school, regardless of style. You could also do a search on here, as there are many good questions and answers about finding a good school.

    3) Visit all of the schools/styles that have an interest to you and watch a few classes, and maybe even participate if they have free trial classes.

    4) Figure out which school is the best according to the list you have, and the questions you will ask of the instructor, and if it fullfills what you are looking for.

    Good luck!

  3. silence

the best answer given to a fool

  4. Forget all that research stuff dude!!  Krav Maga, I'l say it again  Krav Maga!!  This is the most no joke, practical training you can get.  Krav Maga rolls all the other forms together into a complete system.  It's no holds barred, ball smashing, eye gouging, save your *** and get the h**l outta there.

Other arts have rules and matches with refs and stuff.  The only ref in Krav is going home or the hospital.  Period!!

The training is intense.  We learn how to fight essentially.

Imagine the typical fight where a guy walks up to your face and talks ****.  Well in Krav, once the guy gets within range of a kick, I'm sending his balls to the moon and then kneeing him until he pukes...all in about 4 seconds.  You also learn how to fight multiple attackers and defend against weapons i.e. knives, guns, rifles.  You learn how to fight like Batman and Jason Bourne with this stuff!!   Look into a Krav Maga Worldwide school if there's one in your area.
