  1. i was askin the exact same question a couple weeks ago...ive been researchin and i think digital designs 9500 is the best thing there is...its louder than a btl (if u get the composite cone)...its more reliable(doesnt break as easy...its something different(fi audio is becoming more common than kicker...be different if u wanna stand out)....the customer service is better because i can actually talk to them(at fi i can only email them)...if things go wrong u csn probably get a dealership to help u out to save money on shipping(if u buy directly from dd)....u can customize it to however u want it....however they r about $300-$400 dollars more but i think its worth it in the long run..fi is never a bad choice but if money isnt too much of a problem the 9500 is probably one of the best woofers u can get...dd also has more world records than michael phelps( now thats results)...and if u ever change cars and want a different size woofer they will change ur woofer from a 12 to a 15 or something...getting dd is like joining a fraternity cuz ur getting lifetime connections and help...thats why ive settled on this woofer many come close but non seem to be an overall superior woofer...good luck

  2. If you are Talking Pure boom, SPL.  I suggest looking into RE Audio MT series woofers.  The x*x is supposed to be similar in power and sound as the BTL.

Atomic their APXX line might be some good subs that might be able to bench over the BTL, but I havent tested that theory myself.

    Edited: Here's a good reference for 12's:

    http://forum.realmofexcursion.com/showth...

And as they state there...the factors as to what kind of sound you want and the car you have the space, and amps you want to run, the box shape and size ported sealed etc.

Also DD 9512 woofers are great.  (Digital Dimensions)

Ascendant Audio makes some good subs too...not sure how they compare to Fi, but heard they can compete.

I personally prefer Fi out of the whole lot due to price and support.  The guys at Fi will make sure you are happy.  Not to mention recones if the subs are not in warranty anymore are cheap enuff.  Otherwise if it is under warranty, they will fix/recone etc for you.

PS.  Matt A you say you just did the research already?  So did you try out the DD's and make a box?  what amps did you use?  And did you test out the Fi's?  And again what type of amps and box did you use?  What makes you think that DD are more reliable than Fi?  Just curious...cuz you said you just did the research...sooo...did you actually test them out? or try them out?  I have not heard anything about DD being MORE Reliable...  or that Fi's fail sooner than DD etc.

And it is not true that you can only contact Fi By email.  I've had to call Fi when my Subwoofer was lost in the mail.  They were ready to ship me out a new one no charge.  Then my sub finally pulled thru (and not to the fault of Fi...was the UPS agent who delivered to the wrong address).

Anyway again realistically there are many different subs depending on the application.

Not knocking DD At all...Just that I have been researching subs for a long time and have a long list of subs in my garage hehe.  And I agree that DD may have a better sub, but I would say not by much, AND you have to pay quite a bit more for just a few DB more.
