What subject is harder, Geology or Astronomy?

I hate science and I am a business major. However, taking a science class is inevitable so I must pick either Geology or Astronomy because Physics and Chemistry are out of the question. Which subject is harder? Which has more math/formulas?

  1. That depends on two things - your point of view and your professors.

Typically there will be more math in Astronomy - but not always

There is more vocabulary to learn in Geology.

I teach a non-science major Astronomy course, and I try very hard to keep the math down to the minimum - not all profs do that.

My husband teaches the geology equivalent, and he does include some math (as much as I do).

Your best bet is to talk to people who have taken those course from those professors (remember lots of profs teach the same courses, and they do it differently).

  2. they have no much math formulae but i think astronomy is harder than geology because of its measurements

  3. Geology is a small subset of astronomy, as it deals with just one planet, while astronomy deals with all planets, plus moons, stars, galaxies, etc.

As a business major, you will be taking math (statistics for sure, and you should have some calculus).  You should not be looking at subjects for ease, but rather which may be most significant for whatever business you enter.  Geology, for example, would apply to mining, gas/oil, and natural resources in general.  Astronomy for businesses affected by weather, or using communications satellites, or getting contracts for the planned lunar base.

Saying you "hate science" is very immature as well as limiting yourself and betraying a deplorable bias against a field of endeavour that is crucial to our lives.

  4. i would have to say that astronomy would be the harder one. since it has way more mathematics and technology involved ( based on distance and speed) and astronomy is an ever expanding field. scientist are constantly finding new things about our universe every day.

  5. Astronomy has more formulas than geology its self it'll do with complex formulas that you have to do. And as for geology there is very little complex formulas to do.

i know this cause i am astronomy major.

  6. obviously astronomy. In astronomy we almost never use experimental evidence, we use observational and theoretical evidence. Geology is actually quite easy because well, it is set in stone. Astronomy is tons harder but also alot better and I love it. You need to use calculus, trig. and just math all together. But I don't suggest you just go for the easy subject, i would go for the harder one, but i can't tell you what to do. If you don't take astronomy then I will be dissapointed but oh well.

  7. Geology can be way more hands on and so more interesting.  It can tell the non science major how science works as you learn about the history of the science, but the same can be said for astro.  If you can take a survey course, take 'em both it won't kill ya.  You might change your major!  p.s. I'm guessing you hate science because of bad high school experiences--not uncommon!

  8. Astronomy is much more interesting than geology, i guarantee you, so pick astronomy, the more interesting the subject, the easier it will be to get good grades in.

  9. for people who love wrapping their minds around mysteries of the universe and entire existence, Astronomy is the thing. but if you hate science, you will part well with geology.

  10. Avoiding math and mathematical ideas is not the route to success in business.
