I am a Liberal Studies major, and I am just wondering if I have to take all these extra math and history classes if I am only going to teach primary. Do you really need to know about history and geography for little ones? I'm kinda bad at these subjects so it scares me to have to teach it....but I LOVE working with little kids! Thanks!

  1. We have to teach Reading and Math, but I squeeze in Science and Social Studies because it is interesting and increases their vocabularies.  These subjects are very basic for k-2 like needs vs. wants, 3 states of matter, who does what in a community, and living and noliving. You can do it!

  2. Mostly, coloring, reading, simple mathematics, geographic formations. At least, thats how they do it in Texas.

  3. You do need some history, math,

    alot of phonics. It's easy.

    You'll love it.  :-)

  4. maybe just the social studies/ history on a very basic level so you should be cool.  Reading/ writing times tables, long division and cursive are probably the most important.

  5. Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  Look on the website of the state that you will be teaching in to find out what standards are required for primary grades.  I have included 2 links to grade K and 2 for Social Studies so you can see what might be required.

    Hope that helps :)

  6. At my child's school they only have reading, language arts, and math from K-2.  Social studies and science begin in 3rd grade.  K-2 does have some exposure to social studies and science but not on a large scale.  They aren't tested on social studies and science until grade 3 and above.
