  1. ok actually theres one where u close space but its a Gracie move all u do is take one of the arms across the chest and make their elbow over their solar plexus then press ur body weight into it and pull their head up. lol. we call it a fat man smother and it works rather effectively if used right u can choke them out. you can also pull a bent arm bar of sorts if u r tall enough to reach around their head and grab the wirst and then use an americana there also a choke taken from some sambo its kinda like a cross collar but with one hand and an elbow, u dig the hand as far back as u can in the gi and the press ur elbow into their chin and push their head to the same side of that hand its a blood choke of sorts. Or an obo plata/ arm triangle just wrap an arm around their head and then take the other across their throat grab ur bicep on one side and the foream on the other the pull it tight. thats all i can really think of off the top of my head. but u have to be @ least 6'1" to pull off any of these im 6'4" 185 most of the guys i fight are around 5'10" so these are easy for me. but just pass his friggin guard then go to side control and go for an americana of a side choke, side control is the easiest place to submit most of the time yet no one really realises it. another good one break the guard then take a leg and heel hook him very hard to defend against lol... really tho if ur a short guy DO NOT try any of the stuff listed far above just get outta that guard. there are pressure points in the thighs that work very nicely.

Edit: Ya ur rite william but it all depends on your leverage and how good ur technique is. Plus it depends on if hes grappling with a person who knws wats going to happen. lol. but we have a moot point here just pass the guard! the only reason i listed those submissions is cuz ived used them and they worked very well i'm 9-2 because of them.

  2. If you just started, be patient

anytime you roll, whether it be bjj, judo, wrestling, whatever, you're learning how to move yourself, how to feel and sense your opponent's movements

There's a lot more to grappling than knowing a bunch of techniques; you have to develop sensitivity and timing, as well as control of your own mind and body, in order to become really skilled; at this stage, tapping someone out is kind of beside the point

    trial and error is okay

  3. You can try to stack your opponant and pass the guard to get the side mount and work from there or go for some chokes from the guard. Is this GI or no GI? with the Gi you could use a sleeve choke but dont let him bait you into a triangle or armbar. Pay attention to your base at all time and watch for sweeps especially if his guard is open. You CAN sleeve choke from the guard, subs are harder but not impossible from the guard.

  4. My advice would be to pass it.

Otherwise, the neck crank is a nice submission.

I've seen people do the Ezekiel choke or the Cross Lapel choke. But i wouldn't recommend that.

Ask your teacher how to pass the guard. I know it may sound stupid, but trust me. With the information you would acquire, you will develop and learn so much faster. Remember, technique first!

  5. If you're in their guard.... well first off pass gaurd ....uh duh.... then there's any thing you think you can get from side mount including the neck crank, americana ( key lock ), straight arm bar ( sweat always messes this one up, but still worth trying ) sinking in the "body triangle" if you can transition quickly to the back that is then stretching the opponent flat out onto the canvas ( sometimes you get luck and they tap ) if not try the rear naked while remaining locked with the "body triangle".  One thing you won't ever do from inside the guard ever "is submit someone".  You might pull their head forward in an awkward variant of the neck crank and get them to open their guard quickly that way allowing you top mount, but you'll never submit any one in your life from their guard position EVER.  Trust me you'll have to pass guard.  Unless you're sooo good that you can sink in the "Brabo choke" from their guard..... far reach though and it would take major effort .... if you want to get really deep about it maybe you could neck crank transition to brabo choke from their gaurd, but they'd still open their guard .....you'd have to be lightning fast as well about both of these techniques coupled together..... they'd open their guard so technically still not possible, but plausable.  Of course your opponent submitting to strikes doesn't count to me either as far as submitting a man while in his guard so I won't accept that avenue of thought no matter how deep I get about it.

Thanks for the "brabo choke" from top mount Idea though man .... I need to at least practice that one and see where it's validity stands in my list of possibilities.

Edit: Justin that's still just a neck crank though man ( .fat man smother  ) ... so the opponent opens guard .... still no dice for the man seeking a submission from guard and waisting his energy even trying it.... not that my idea was any better as a matter of fact I feel stupid even entertaining the thought of "submission from guard" ....... the guard would be broken no matter what.
