  1. Felt tipped pens and markers have ink that is either water-based or alcohol-based.  Water-based ink can be wiped off with a wet cloth.  Alcohol-based ink is called permanent because you can't wash it off with water - although it comes off with alcohol or white spirit.


  2. Permanent markers use ink that is soluble only in alcohol.
