What substance makes lightning bugs glow??

Whatever it is, it has been copied and made in to many products that glow's in the dark, mainly things to keep kids amusement!!!...Lol well, there are things for adults as well...ect what do you think?

I believe that it's a chemical reaction that causes the bio-luminescence, usually done when mating. Amazing characteristic. I've read that the brighter the 'glow', the more females will be attracted to it. We inhabit an incredible world.

luciferin.. and its in it gaseous state. it is also supposed to light up when it conflicts with oxygen!
