I've ridden cruisers all my life except for a honda incterceptor for a couple months. I Didn't love the interceptor except the awesome fuel injection and quick starts. I want something that is great on and is not overally stretched out and uncomfortable for 20 minute highways commutes mainly. I like the ninjas best so far. And the cbr's. And the sv650 and zrx1200 is cool. but i kinda want a real sportbike look. Something i could take a weekend trip on and not be dead at the end.

  1. I have a YZF 1000R, its a 97 and you arent going to find one very easy in the US, but it has been from Florence Kentucky to Ft Lauderdale Florida 3 times, and to Daytona bike week once. Ft Lauderdale is a 20+ hour ride for me, I stopped occasionally just to get off and use the restroom, grab a drink and a bite and got back at it.

I was never in pain, never cramped... I doubt I stopped anymore than anyone on a bike would have.

Crotch rockets have a bad reputation for being uncomfortable...but usually people who say they are have just never been on one... they just think "that looks uncomfortable". In reality.. my bike is VERY comfortable, the tank rise is high, I get forward on the seat and rest my stomach on the tank, there is no pressure on my back or wrists. I could ride for hours and hours if I wanted... but its nice to stop and rest. Even people in cars stop on 20 hour drives to get out and stretch.

I have been on the R-1, doubt I could have made the Ft Lauderdale ride on it and have been as comfortable as my bike. The grips are low and the tank is small...there really is quite a bit of weight on your wrists, but what an awsome machine for what it was made for!!!!

I have been on a Hayabusa...could have rode it all day..again it has a high tank you can rest your stomach on and take all the weight off of your back and wrists.

Sat on the Ninja Zx-1400 in the showroom, I could ride that bike all day too. They had it all decked out with a tank and tail bags, I still had room to get comfy...in fact If I were going to buy a new bike right now that is probably the one I would roll out on, just because I am a sport bike guy who DOES take long road trips, and I can tell I could ride that one coast to coast with no problem.

You mentioned the 1200, never been on one, but I would guess it is probably the same as the ZX-1400... if I were going to bike a sportbike to use like you are saying you want, I would go with the ZX-1400, weekend trips would be an easy thing on that bike, I have no doubt.

  2. A CBR with bar risers would be a good choice.

  3. Check out Honda ST1300. The local PD here in Colorado Springs have their motorcycle cops on these. If cops can sit on these 10 hours a day. I bet they would be good you.

  4. Well, most the nice sport bikes out there put u lower that a cruiser. So, you will have a hard time being "comfortable". My bike I could ride on the highway for about 1.5 hours and I have to stop and stand up. It is alot on ur back being bent over so long. You just need to go test ride a bunch of bikes.
