  1. Fish hooks, hardtack and rum.

  2. i don't know about websites, but there are lots of books about there chronicling voyages around the world on sailboats.  Joshua Slocum, Bernard Monteissier(sp) Sir Francis Chichester all did this feat a long time ago.

You may also want to read the book DOVE.

A book about surviving in a life raft by Steven Callahan will also be a good read if you are really interested in this.

    Good luck!

  3. Easy! Figure out how long it will take you, and then mark your calendar, and mark a start point in the next few days and a stop point for the length of the trip. Then, cook all of your meals and write down everything that you use, and you will have your list.

    Regards,

    Dan

  4. It all depends on your ability to cook & bake> fridge & freezer> size of boat as remember the more weight you put on the deeper in the water it settles in the water> The slower it is> And all that weight must be placed so the boat isn't bow or stern heavy>As you can make the boat not sail correctly> dry good ok canned with water in then get heavy real quick> The most import is a water maker so you don't have to carry hundreds of gals of water> Parts are also very inportant> As there isn't a marine parts store out there very often>Fuel as the winds can die out for days at a time>  Best cruise close to islands for a few yrs> Learning to sail in all types of weather> Look on line for storys & books of circle navigation>

    Cruised the caribbean 20yrs exp>

  5. Whoa... man... Slow down a moment... your getting way ahead of your self.

It is nice to have the dream... in fact, I encourage it... but lets start with the books... after you read the books, we can talk again about choosing a boat, and "staples" to sail around the world.

If you are really serious... the very best thing you can do is look for books - a visit to ye ole public Library is in order here... And here is a list of some 'good reads'.

Sailing alone around the World (Joshua Slocum)

    Ocean Voyaging (David Parker)

    Just Cruising (Liza Copeland)

All in the same Boat (McCall/Howard)

The Dove (Robin Lee Graham) This is a 16 year old that sailed solo around the world... there is a movie by the same name.

And just about anything ever written by Lin and Larry Pardey.

Robin Lee Graham (above) was the "kid" that inspired me (and many-many others of my generation) and although I was also 16 when I began reading about him in the news... I was unable to sail around the world until I was 48... but, it was worth the wait, as I did it with my 28 year old son.

In 1993 when my son came home from Desert Storm (the first Iraq war) It was a promise we made to each other before he went to Iraq... that when he came home, we would do it... and so we did.  We spent 4 years sailing around the world, and what an experience it was... At that time - we arrived home in Oct. 1997 the final cost was just pennies short of $14,000 a year... not bad - seeing how that was the total living expenses for two people... and we saw, did, went, everywhere we wanted to go... We were not extravagant by any means... but neither did we do without... And now and then we would reach a Port where we treated ourselves to a great big steak, and ice cream (two things you just don't get alot of at sea...

So, I encourage your dream... but you have a long way to go... so check out the books... read, re-read all the books you can find on the subject...  and for goodness sakes... start those sailing lessons!

Also, check out the following links... it will give you food for thought when it comes to thinking of an actual boat...

and don't loose site of your dream!

  6. There have been lots of people who have done this, and it seems that most of them got back a wrote a book about it.  It wouldn't take too much effort to find those books.

And if it takes a whole book to describe it, you won't get the answer here.
