I'm 14 yrs. 6ft and thin. Beginner (fiber glass! not a G board or foam board). I live in Australia and body board at Pt. Leo, Gunamatta, Rye Back Beach, Ocean Grove, Torquay, & Bells Beach.

What would be a good board for these beaches and in a reasonable price range (beginner remember so i dont hav a lot of money)?

  1. As many surfers that live in your area you should be able to pick up a used board for a reasonable price.  If it's your first board go back to the resolved questions and read one of John F's responses about picking a first board.

  2. theres a ton of rippers where you live---go to a shop and ask. if you dont have much money, you may be able to pick up a used custom for cheap.

  3. See Kim_Dude's answer, remember: TRY before you BUY.

  4. i would suggest get a mini-mal. those things can surf at almost any beach and if you are new i would also suggest get a used one. but for the best advise, ask someone at a surfshop because they surf there and know the breaks and what the waves are like.

  5. I always recommend longboards for beginners.  I'd go with something 9 foot or larger.  After you get more advanced, you could try a shortboard.  Talk to the surf shop employees in your area.

  6. when i was your age i was it was my secound summer of surfing and i too was 6 ft and thin (130lbs) i bought a 7'6' funboard from a friend and that thing was perfect for me....big enough for my inexperience and small days..yet small enough to be easily manuverable.   i got it from a friend for 150...and he bought it 2 yrs earlier for 375 new.

    hope this helps
