Question:

What surfboards are good for these waves?

I live in Virginia Beach on the east coast and there are a lot of small waves.

I already surf, but I'm basically a beginner, and the board i have is not that great for these waves.

I was just wondering what people think would be good for 2-5 foot waves.... a regular fish or a quad. Right now I'm keeping my eye on a nice quad that is 6'4" and seems to be wide enough for the conditions i surf under.

(in case it matters, the board i have now is a 6'2" shortboard. It's pretty broken up, my cousin passed it down to me.)

  1. Ride from local shapers.  Use a longboard if you are lazy and just want to chill but if you want to work get a basic short board (1-2in above your height or shorter).  Tail configurations.. stick to the basics... squash.  Unless you are "good"/pro/retired-pro/ninja... you won't be able to tell the difference in tail and fin configurations.   Keep it simple.

  2. i would actually go with a funboard, maybe a 8'2. thats what i ride. i live in panama city beach, and the waves rarely get any higher than chest high. Unless of course hurricanes roll through. Either that, or a 5;10 fish would be your best bet.

  3. You asked the same question a week ago.

Clearly, you aren't happy with the responses which is fine. As we often suggest here, you should talk to your local surf shop. All beginners should talk to their local surf shop owners.

  4. that sounds good, but 5ft waves are big so you might need another type of board
