What surgical instruments will i expect to see in a cholecystectomy operation?

i am a student nurse and i will be handling a chOlecystectomy operation later in my duty as a scrub nurse... i want to be prepared by knowing the instuments that the surgeon will be using. pls help!

Other then general surgical instruments, specific instrument for laparoscopic cholecystectomy are following--

Veress needle

Four trocars

A reducer

A pair of scissors

A dissector

Two graspers

A clip applier

Suction-irrigation-coagulation devices

A thin tubuler laparoscope

Hi, I am a Surgical Tech/Instrument Repair Specialist. You'll want to familiarize yourself with the instrumentation in a major tray no matter what (also called a Laparotomy tray) In this tray you'll see most of your basics, usually 8 -12 each of your clamps, suction tips, retractors (USA, and malleable X3 sizes), Needle holders, sponge sticks, etc. You didn't specify if you'll be doing an open cholecystectomy, or a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. If you're doing the Lap Chole, then you'll need to familiarize yourself with the laparoscopy tray as well.

Best advice I can give you; be ready for the doc when he/she comes into the room, present these items in this order:

1.) Towel

2.) Gown (immediately grab the tab & spin 'em around)

3.) Gloves (hold them open, and apply them like you mean business!)

It's always a nice touch to offer a basin of sterile water for the doc to rinse the powder from his gloves, as this powder has been associated with adhesions post-op.

Everything is going to go real fast, so get a rhythm going, and always try to anticipate the doc's needs. As a scrub nurse, it's your job to make their job easier, and to maintain the sterile field.
